Definitely worth the price paid. The steamer is very roomy and allows you to cook more than one veggie at a time. Great for corn on the cob and other garden vegetables. Very efficient and fast to fix a meal without having to keep an eye on it. Leave it alone and let it do the cooking. Very healthy alternative to boiling on the stove.

The Oster 5711 Mechanical Food Steamer steams a lot of vegetables perfectly and in less time than other steamers. I like the size of the steamer and clean-up is easy and simple. The water indicator is a great feature and makes for easy water refill, when necessary. I only steam vegetables in the steamer; tried steaming eggs, but they didn't turn out very well. Glad I purchased the Oster 5711 Mechanical Food Steamer and would recommend this steamer to those "veggie lovers".

Love the new steamer and the fancy features it comes with. The Error mechanism when the amount of water falls below a certain level is great! Also like the fact that it is transparent. A good addon would be an extra container for rice. An ability to give the aroma of the spices would also be welcome. PS: Have not used it extensively, so can't comment on durability or sturdiness. Have owned for about 3 months now.

It is an "earn while you learn" device. There are no cooking instructions which come with. We use it for steamed corn, potatoes, rice, etc. - these work very well with practice.

This steamer is really a good use of the money. Totally worth it. Holds a lot of food, cooks it quickly without letting too much steam escape and without heating up the house. It's fairly easy to clean (a dishwasher should make this a moot point, but I don't use one) and it's easy to use. The directions make sense and cover what you need to know. The time has a clear and easy-to-read display. There's not much else to say about this steamer other than that I wouldn't give mine up.
