"Missing feature" 2010-09-07
By Kim Marchok
The manual for this product clearly says that when cooking on the porridge setting, the product automatically switches to keep warm when it is finished cooking. However, that is not the case. The only functions that automatically switch to keep warm are the rice settings. I use my Aroma to cook hot cereals and grains for the family for breakfast. However, we all have different schedules. This missing feature is a real disappointment. If the grain is cooked on time for the first person, it is cold for the last. :-( The work around I use is to cook the cereal or grain on the brown rice setting. However, the sensor logic doesn't understand my goal, so the cereals and grains do not come out as well as they do on the porridge setting. But, at least this way everyone gets a warm breakfast. :-) A plus is that this item is half the price of similar models. And it does a great job cooking rice.

"Excellant Steamer" 2010-08-24

I didn't even realize rice cookers existed until a friend of mine recommended that I get one. I make a lot of rice so it made sense to buy an appliance that made the process more simple. I got my cooker today and immediately whipped up a batch of basmati rice. Other than the fact that I didn't completely read the directions and used a regular 1 cup measure instead of the enclosed measuring cup, the rice still turned out great. My dinner took longer than expected so the rice was done way before dinner. The warming option came on and it just sat on my counter until the rest of dinner was complete. The rice was not at all sticky...all the water was absorbed, and not a single grain of rice stuck to the bowl. There was no mess to clean up on the outside like other rice cookers make apparently, and it was so quiet I had to keep checking that it was on and working. There are many other options to this cooker that I obviously haven't tried yet, but so far, for basic white rice, it worked amazingly well. I don't know how I lived this long without one of these!!

"Just as advertised" 2010-07-05

I use it all the time - it makes great rice and I love steaming vegetables. I bought it especially because of the delay timer so I can have the rice done even when I'm not there to start it. The only negative comes from steaming carrots because it stained the steamer orange and I can't get it off; I contacted Aroma but their suggestions didn't work. Otherwise, it's a great product.

"Cute, good size, easy to clean!" 2010-06-19
By Stephanie N. Bowling (NE)
I love my new rice cooker. It soo sleek and smooth. It has a swivel retractable cord, which is convenient not to have to tuck away a corded. The digital display is easy to read, the sushi rice mode is perfect for onigiri, nice fluffy sticky rice. The handle is nice to for haling around and the button on the top flips open nicely. It comes with a cheap ladle, I've never used but the rice paddle is nice and sturdy. It also comes with a steaming tray, I've never used but it looks like it'll work. The bowl is easy to clean out...I mean really easy. I haven't ever burnt the rice on the bottom of it, unlike the old Zojirushi (lower model). Overall good buy. I would definitely get another, but maybe a bigger one. This works for our family (5 people, 3 of them guys).
