"2 Tier Steamer" 2010-03-13
By Jeanni M. Breen
I have used this steamer several times since purchase & it works fine as would be expected. The tiers are of lighter plastic than my previous steamer which I had owned for many, many years. However, that is the only difference I can see in the Ewave 2 Tier Food Steamer .

"Wanted so much to like this... but..." 2010-07-26
By Kiwi Liv (Bay Area, CA)
Pros:

- cute color

- steams well
- separates water from the veggies (helpful because I use the water when finished as a base for my gravy since it contains all the good stuff from the veggies)

Cons:

- handles do get hot

- pain in the A to wash 3 separate parts

The last part is probably my biggest complaint. I didnt think it was too much of a big deal when I bought it, but now that I deal with it nearly every day, I just find it a real pain to wash all these parts (since they are quite big). Hubby is definitely not a fan for this reason alone. I also live in an area that has hard water, so it doesnt stay nice & clean looking for long. If you can get passed the washing part, then it is a good steamer.

"Hard plastic parts retains strong odors, description not accurate" 2010-06-01
By LC (San Francisco, CA United States)
The steaming works as advertised. Bought at Macy's and returned because I wasn't happy with the product. Description is not accurate: only the colander component and lid are made of silicone, the transparent bowl and divider plate are made of hard plastic (needed to hold its structure/form, otherwise food and liquid would spill out). What bothers me is that the hard plastic retains strong odors like garlic after just one use. Also it doesn't indicate if that plastic is BPA free or not.

"wonder microwave steamer" 2009-08-25
By Nathalie Knight
I had the occasion to witness several members of my family use this item while visiting in France this summer. Everyone has had a vegetable garden for years so we were able to compare many kinds of vegies, from potatoes to leeks, beets, and a few others, which normally would take a very long time to cook in boiling water. Everything cooked much faster and retained the important vitamins that would otherwise be lost during the boiling process. It also prevents the house from heating too much.I am enjoying my new purchase greatly, not to forget that it is dishwasher safe as well. At this time I have not yet used the top tray. I sometimes also use it as a simple strainer to wash fresh fruit or vegetables and let it sit in its base while draining, and for storage in the fridge since it has a convenient lid.I find this product totally awsome and practical.

"Excellent customer service" 2010-09-27
By david bright (Irmo, SC USA)
The company has excellent customer service. The employee who assisted me was knowledgeable and friendly. I did not experience any difficulty in getting the defective product replaced. I was pleased when I received a followup email regarding the replacement status and the phone number of the employee who had helped me. The replacement was packed in biodegradable peanuts. Although these peanuts are more expensive than polystyrene peanuts, I applaud the company's decision to do the right thing for the environment.

"Great Rice Cooker, and much much cheaper than Japanese brand" 2010-09-21
By C. K. Leung
My old Panasonic rick Cooker broke down after 5 years, back than, that rick cooker cost me more than $50 to buy. Now when I come to buy it at Amazon.com I do not expect to pay much less and can get the same function, even the look is the same.I am very happy and hope this one will last.

"Nice for the Price" 2010-09-18
By Len C.
Nice inexpensive product. Cooks well for the price. If you want a basic rice cooker and steamer, you can't beat the price. However, next time I would by a more expensive model with more features, but this is a good starter rice cooker. My only gripe was that the cooker arrived with minor damage, the kind that was caused by Amazon shipping. The void space in the shipping box was filled with a small amount of paper, which did not protect the product. The spoon holder plastic loop was cracked and there was a small ding in the inner pot. Item was still functional and not worth sending back. Not usual for Amazon.

"great for the price" 2010-08-24
By AJ (Sunnyvale, California United States)
- looks good, well made

- never tried steaming anything, but rice is cooked well, it will take some experimentation to get the amount of water required perfectly right for your brand of rice

- came with cooking pot, spatula to serve rice, measuring cup and steaming tray

Deducting one star for the fact that it starts with the "cook" light on when plugged in, regardless of the position of the switch. The switch position for "cook"/"warm" are not marked on the cooker itself

"OH THAT'S GOOD RICE!" 2010-08-09

Great rice cooker. Yields 16 cups of cooked rice! I thought it was eight cooked. It's big but no regrets here. Makes perfect rice everytime and clean up is a snap. Worth every penny.

"Missing feature" 2010-09-07
By Kim Marchok
The manual for this product clearly says that when cooking on the porridge setting, the product automatically switches to keep warm when it is finished cooking. However, that is not the case. The only functions that automatically switch to keep warm are the rice settings. I use my Aroma to cook hot cereals and grains for the family for breakfast. However, we all have different schedules. This missing feature is a real disappointment. If the grain is cooked on time for the first person, it is cold for the last. :-( The work around I use is to cook the cereal or grain on the brown rice setting. However, the sensor logic doesn't understand my goal, so the cereals and grains do not come out as well as they do on the porridge setting. But, at least this way everyone gets a warm breakfast. :-) A plus is that this item is half the price of similar models. And it does a great job cooking rice.

"Excellant Steamer" 2010-08-24
By Lynn (Marshall, WI United States)
I didn't even realize rice cookers existed until a friend of mine recommended that I get one. I make a lot of rice so it made sense to buy an appliance that made the process more simple. I got my cooker today and immediately whipped up a batch of basmati rice. Other than the fact that I didn't completely read the directions and used a regular 1 cup measure instead of the enclosed measuring cup, the rice still turned out great. My dinner took longer than expected so the rice was done way before dinner. The warming option came on and it just sat on my counter until the rest of dinner was complete. The rice was not at all sticky...all the water was absorbed, and not a single grain of rice stuck to the bowl. There was no mess to clean up on the outside like other rice cookers make apparently, and it was so quiet I had to keep checking that it was on and working. There are many other options to this cooker that I obviously haven't tried yet, but so far, for basic white rice, it worked amazingly well. I don't know how I lived this long without one of these!!

"Just as advertised" 2010-07-05
By Guernsey Gal
I use it all the time - it makes great rice and I love steaming vegetables. I bought it especially because of the delay timer so I can have the rice done even when I'm not there to start it. The only negative comes from steaming carrots because it stained the steamer orange and I can't get it off; I contacted Aroma but their suggestions didn't work. Otherwise, it's a great product.

"Cute, good size, easy to clean!" 2010-06-19
By Stephanie N. Bowling (NE)
I love my new rice cooker. It soo sleek and smooth. It has a swivel retractable cord, which is convenient not to have to tuck away a corded. The digital display is easy to read, the sushi rice mode is perfect for onigiri, nice fluffy sticky rice. The handle is nice to for haling around and the button on the top flips open nicely. It comes with a cheap ladle, I've never used but the rice paddle is nice and sturdy. It also comes with a steaming tray, I've never used but it looks like it'll work. The bowl is easy to clean out...I mean really easy. I haven't ever burnt the rice on the bottom of it, unlike the old Zojirushi (lower model). Overall good buy. I would definitely get another, but maybe a bigger one. This works for our family (5 people, 3 of them guys).

Trudeau Stainless Steel Vegetable Steamer

Product By Trudeau(19 customers reviews)
Lowest Price : $10.99

Product Description

Vegetable steamer, stainless steel, boxed.Steaming is a high-heat, low-fat method of cooking that ensures great flavor with minimal nutrient loss. A vegetable steamer can also double as a colander; wash vegetables or fruit and set them aside on the steamer to drain during the prep stages of cooking.
The Trudeau stainless steel vegetable steamer has a familiar, blossom-shaped design that folds to look rather like a flying saucer. It sits on three sturdy steel legs that keep the basket out of boiling water during steaming. Most steamer baskets of this type have a small, hard-to-reach handle that makes extricating the steamer from a hot pan difficult. The Trudeau vegetable steamer handle, however, extends up like a plunger providing a broad grip and large oval loop that help keep hands away from scalding steam.
The Trudeau vegetable steamer is made of dishwasher-safe steel and heat-resistant plastic. Allow the tool to dry completely before folding for storage. The steamer is 11 inches across when unfolded, and stands 5-1/2 inches tall with handle fully extended. Trudeau guarantees this product with a five-year warranty against defects in materials and workmanship. --Garland Withers

Technical Details
  • 11-inch, stainless steel, folding, vegetable steaming tray with extendible handle
  • Colander-style vegetable steamer with plastic extender handle
  • Handle helps keep hands out of steam; 3 legs lift food above water
  • Dishwasher-safe stainless steel; sturdy plastic handle
  • Steamer measures 11 inches in diameter by 5-1/2 inches tall; 5-year warranty

"Cheap. Badly designed. Useless." 2010-07-13
By E. Broome (Baltimore, MD)
In just 4 months of light use, three of the four crummy, rubbery (and non-heat-proof) black feet have fallen off. Two of the stainless steel leaves in the basket fell off after 5 uses, so now the basket doesn't collapse down properly without a lot of frustrating arranging of the leaves in a particular order. It's become one of those annoying MENSA puzzles, which I really don't have time for when I'm trying to steam a little broccoli for hungry people. Because of its large base, the steamer's basket fits only one of my saucepans - the one which already happens to have a built-in steamer attachment. This thing has no business in a working kitchen. I bought the Trudeau steamer to replace the last cheap steamer we had, which broke after a year of use. If you pick this one up by the handle, you'll burn yourself as it swings. And if you try using a fork or tongs to remove it by the tiny wire at the top, the whole steamer, heavy with vegetables and water will usually slip right off and plonk hard down into the hot water bath, swaying on its rickety feet and burning you badly. If some of your leaves break off, as mine did, vegetables fall out of the basket as you lift it and into the water below, again, splashing you with boiling water. I have wanted to throw this steamer across my kitchen more times than I can count. As another reviewer noted, the black plastic trunk does not seem at all heat-proof. Not good if you're a person with powerful burners.I am left asking myself: How did we put a man on moon if we can't even manage a simple stainless steel vegetable steamer? My mother had a similar collapsible-leaf version for at least 3 decades. Growing up, I probably used that steamer several hundred times without incident and without frustration. My goal now is to find a steamer that will a.) work, b.) not cause severe burns, c.) not melt, d.) not break within a few month' time. I'll try the OXO next and will post a review if it's The One. I remain hopeful.

"Flimsy" 2010-05-17
By AmazonWoman (SF Bay Area)
For me, the whole point of this product was the large size, and the ability to pull the steamer out of the pot by the extendable handle. (I like to steam a lot of broccoli at once, in a large pot.) PROBLEM: When trying to lift the "loaded" steamer out of the pot, the handle pulled right off. The handle should be strong enough to lift the weight of the loaded steamer, otherwise what's the point of the large capacity? Very disappointing.

"RUSTED" 2010-01-30
By tjk (Appleton, WI)
Works great. Love the large size. Didn't mind the price based on the features, BUT I wonder about the quality of the stainless steel (probably made in China with poor materials and poor quality control like many things these days). I left it in a covered cooking pot in the refrigerator for a day or two with broccoli in it and it rusted in places (some places where it was touching the pot, some places where it wasn't touching anything), plus left rust marks in places where it touched my nice new (expensive) stainless steel pot. Not happy about that. If it's not meant to withstand that process (cook, cool, put in fridge for a couple of days), then my bad. Otherwise, the quality of the stainless steel is not up to what it should be. Not sure if I'll continue using it, as most of the rust won't come off the steamer, even with steel wool (telling me it's impurities IN the stainless steel of the steamer), but doubt I'll buy another one from this manufacturer.

"Works as expected" 2010-01-22
By Scott Zawalski
The Trudeau Stainless Steel Vegetable Steamer works exactly as you would expect it. The one thing I am a bit worried about are the feet covers, they do not look like they will last long. Even so I am not too worried the feet will work just fine without them. If you have never steamed vegetables or have rigged something to steam your vegetables you might as well just spend the couple of bucks and buy this, I've already started steaming more vegetables than I used to.

"Great steamer" 2009-12-17
By Karen 456 (Sacramento, CA USA)
This is a very sturdy stainless steel steamer with a large basket. The handle extends so that when steaming lots of veggies, you can still get the steamer out of the pot without losing everything.the only drawback is that I've only used the steamer a couple of time, and one of the rubber leg coverings has already fallen off. Other than that, it's a workhorse steamer.

"Nesco 4quart food steamer" 2010-09-29

"perfect for the single male" 2010-09-17
By Paul A. Eisenhauer
I selected this product over the others because I wanted something simple, easy to clean, not too big for the kitchen counter, and inexpensive. This product fits the bill for all of these.

Simple - there is not much to a steamer as it just boils water and this product has one dial. There is nothing fancy to it. Also it is safe because if you are out of water it turns itself off and not even my coffee maker does that. It is very easy to use, but it doesn't think for itself and so you are required a little intelligence in being able to know when your food is cooked properly as I have a tendency to just turn it on and check on it later.

easy to clean - this steamer is very easy to clean. The plastic is very thin and flexible which surprised me when I first got it, but when you think about it a steamer doesn't really need to be built like a juicer since the steaming process is not as demanding.

Not too big - this steamer seems to be just the right size for a single person, but if you are cooking for a family you should consider something bigger. This steamer is just big enough to be functional. And it definitely doesn't take up much space.

Inexpensive - well it could have been a little cheaper. If it was $10.00 bucks cheaper I would have given this steamer 5 stars and my highest reccomendation. But the price was not too bad and was definitely cheaper than the others I looked at.

So if you are single or a student you might consider this a good deal.

"BPA Free but Steams Slowly" 2010-08-22
By JLH_78
This steamer was the ONLY BPA Free steamer I could find for my family. I found that it is very small, even with both tiers and takes a long time to steam the vegetables when compared to the other steamer we had (which did contain BPA). So I guess that is the trade off but I'm going to continue to look for a better, faster model.
