"Awesome!" 2010-07-24
By A.C. (Texas)
This steamer is perfect! It makes vegetables perfect and they taste so good when steamed in here you don't even need any seasonings.....just the taste of the vegetable, pure and simple. You will NEVER go back to canned or frozen vegatables after you buy this. It's fast, easy and a snap to clean up. Great item!

"Fantastic Steamer, Great Value" 2010-07-05
By Terry B Parks
Since the price was so good, I didn't know what to expect from this steamer. I was pleasantly surprised! I made chicken breast and squash first. The chicken breast was moist and juicy and full of flavor. I marinated the chicken first. The squash was a bit overcooked, so next time I will add it about 10 minutes after the chicken. The second time I used it, I steamed alaskan king crab legs. I put some legs in the bottom part and some in the top. I sprinkled some Old Bay Seasoning and steamed for 20 minutes. The crab legs were absolutely perfect! My daughter says they were the best she's ever had.

"Steamer not a good buy" 2010-02-12
By Shelba J. Loper (Sciotoville,Ohio)
We bought this steamer and within 2-3 months it would not hold the time, I kept trying to reset it but it acted as if it was frozeup, I hated it!!! We ended up throwing this in the garbage. I would NOT suggest anyone to get this, unless of course you want to use it for 1-2 months!!!

"Breaks Down Quickly" 2010-02-06
By Geraldine Fortin
Love using this type of cooking for many foods - from fish to veggies, warming up leftovers like pasta dishes excellent, defrosting berries, etc. Especially love the fact you don't have to watch it - it rings a bell to tell you when done - BUT it breaks down too quickly. Have purchased 3 of them over the last 3 years - seems like the heat sensing core doesn't stand up to constant daily use, or long steaming sessions, and never works right again if one forgets to put the water in - very unforgiving even tho it does shut itself off and supposedly able to handle this emergency

I LOVE THIS STEAMER !! Steams fast and is EASY TO CLEAN !!

It takes only 22 minutes to cook the best hard boiled eggs I've ever eaten in my life. (one dozen)

I look at this steamer as a new beginning for my dad and I. I will be having bariatric surgery at the beginning of the year and this steamer will help to cook healthier meals.

"Excellent product" 2009-11-18

This is a very easy to use and very easy to clean steamer. It is a little bit bulky looking and it is very well worth-ed. I steamed frozen vegetables and rice and they all turned out to be great.

"Trays are made of #7 PLASTIC!!!!" 2009-10-20
By T. Fratz (MD USA)
I purchased the Richard Simons EST7 Steam-Heat Electronic food steamer last year and I just loved it. I ended up purchasing 3 more as gifts for my family. I had no problems until I happend to look to see what plastic number the trays were made of. To my surprise it was a #7, the worst plastic made. The food is placed directly on these trays for steaming. I did lots of research on this plastic and found out how dangerious it was. This plastic is normally seen as a bad plastic because it is made with Biphenyl-A, which is a synthetic estrogen. This can leach into food products as it ages as well as under heat (STEAM). Biphenyl-A is thought to be a hormone disruptor than may simulate the action of estrogen when tested in human breast cancer studies. I also found studies that claim #7 plastic can cause all kinds of medical problems, especially cancer. I was horrified. I tried to contact Richard Simons through his web site to inform him of what I discovered with this product that he was endorsing. That was over a month ago and still no response. He promotes a healthly lifstyle but I don't think this product would qualify. I feel that it is important to imform people of the risk with using this steamer and how it may contribute to health problems. Please research the kinds of plastics that are used for our food. We have to put the word out about these hazards before it's too late.

"The best money I ever spent on cooking" 2009-08-01
By John F. Osullivan (Framingham)
The steamer is huge. i bought another steamer and it is less then half the size of this one. You can cook a big meal for a small family with this. You can cook rice vegetables and meat in different chambers and for different amounts of time. it is very easy to use and to clean. The food tastes good and it is so healthy. "Love Hate Relationship" 2008-08-19
By L. Brock (OK, USA)
What I love? The horizontal placement of the bowls (instead of one that stacks on top of the other), the ability to set different time settings for each bowl, and the synchronized timing of all bowls to finish the cooking cycle at the same time. I cook in bulk a lot and this steamer makes that process very time efficient. It is user friendly as far as programing times for each bowl. What I hate? It's mammoth huge. It takes up a lot of space in my kitchen. Before I received this item as a gift, I used two separate steamers which took up less space. Clean up is a royal pain and time consuming. Yes, you can put it in the dishwasher but the tray is huge and then to try to put the bowls in along with other dishes... well, you mostly have steamer parts in there. It's cumbersome to wash in the sink. The bowls are easy to clean since they support large steaming and draining holes and the material is smooth with no edges or places for food to get stuck or hung in. But again, it's so big that it's annoying to clean. I do not like that everything drains into one drip tray. I make my own baby food. Many times I use the drip from the vegetable to add to the blender to aid in the blending process. That is impossible with this steamer as the drippings from all meats/vegetables drip down into a single tray. Also, I make a LOT of rice. The rice bowl is small and not adequate for what I need. I generally get one of my other steamers out to make rice. I would never have purchased this for myself. Since it was a gift I will keep it, but truthfully, it's just too big and cumbersome. I find myself quite agitated during the cleaning process. I do think for my needs separate steamers work best. For someone who makes complete meals with this steamer it's probably awesome. I think it does have it's place for those who steam whole meals every day. It is also very user-friendly for those electronics challenged people.

"It works, but you get what you pay for." 2010-08-02
By Seth (USA)
I received this rice cooker as a gift last August, and since then it's become one of my most useful kitchen appliances -- I use it to make rice, chili, pasta, and all sorts of things that involve boiling water. It did the job and I was satisfied with it... until today. Today, while I was cooking some chili, the black plastic part with the switch just fell off. I hadn't even noticed that it was loose up until now, but when I tried putting it back on I noticed there was a crack in it, and the plastic part of the lever (that switches between "warm" and "cook") was also cracked and now there's no way I can re-attach it. Even without the plastic thing attached it's still technically functional, but the metal part of the lever is now exposed, and it gets hot while the rice cooker is on... so you'd have to either wear a glove or risk burning yourself. Overall, this rice cooker was good while it lasted, and I may keep using it for a while yet, but as soon as I have the money I'm going to buy something that'll last longer than a year.

"Great for rice" 2010-07-17
By Thomas A. Hutton (Washington, DC)
This is a fine rice cooker for two or three people. Yes, as others have noted, rice may stick in the bottom but soaking it for a couple of hours makes it easy to clean. You will need to search the net for instructions on how to cook some rices, like basmati. It's not great for steaming veggies. Getting them out when they're done can be a little difficult and messy.

"I love this!!" 2010-07-02
By J. CLASS (CT)
One of the only things my 3 year old will eat is white rice, And this magic appliance simple makes it to perfection.. and at this amazingly low price it is a steal!

"Awesome rice cooker for college or small household" 2010-06-06
By Rachel Fong
In accord with other reviewers' advice, I always dry the metal bowl completely before putting it back in the rice cooker, and have had no problems so far. It makes about four good servings of rice, and sometimes I mix in lentils or throw vegetables on top to steam (I don't use the steaming rack).
Pros:
- The keep-warm function -- not easy to find in small rice cookers.
- Good versatile size
- Price
Cons:
- Yes, you have to soak the bowl to get rid of rice that sticks to the bottom, but that's not really a big deal.
- When plugged in, its only states are "keep warm" or "cook", so you have to unplug it when it's not in use.

"Great Little Unit for First Timer" 2010-05-21
By Lisa Ann Vopal (Reno, NV)
This is the first rice cooker I've ever purchased, so I really didn't know what to expect. I really like the idea that the pot is aluminum, with no coating over it. We've used it three times now, and I'm really happy with how the rice turns out. Yes, it does stick to the bottom a bit, but I like the crunchy stuff, and it cleans very easily after soaking for a short period of time. This thing is so handy and easy to use. The rice consumption in my household will be increasing significantly!

Used a manual Oster Steamer for years but the wife wanted a new "digital one"...Seemed to be a nice steamer at first....stopped working after 5 days...Bought an Oster Digital Steamer from Target...hope it does well or we will be back to the old "manual timer" steamer...

"Impressed" 2009-09-20
By bb (TX)
We had out-grown our old steamer and were looking for a larger one for our family. This more than exceeded my expectations. It is large. A single level is almost as big as the old steamer. I thought I would have to use all three to exceed my previous capacity. Another plus is the shape. The circular design of some steamers is limiting. Putting in fillets or things like asparagus is easier to arrange now. I think the asparagus actually turns out better since it's in the center of the dish and not around the edges conforming to the shape of a circular container. Also, the oblong shape allows more efficient use of space to arrange items like fillets, thus more fits. There is also more surface area on the bottom. While the volume of some steamers may be large, a lot of this volume is consumed vertically. The design of this tray has more surface area along the bottom and is not as deep compared to other steamer trays boasting the same capacity. Steamed foods turn out fine in the automatic modes as well as manual. I find myself sticking mainly to manual, since there are lots of variables the preset programs can't account for like personal preference on 'doneness', quantity - which can affect circulation, type of food which a handful of presets cannot possibly prepare to everyone's personal preference, etc.
PROS: Lots of steam- fast. Easy to read display. Easy to use functions. Nice to have a water refill port that can be accessed while in use as well as easy to clean after use. Nesting feature of the trays is a great space-saver.
CONS: One major drawback, the manual setting cannot be used with a delay. The presets are cute, but unnecessary. Event the manual itself recommends varying times from the recommended preset times to conform to your preferences. I'd trade all of those presets to be able to use the delay feature with button eight - the manual mode. Did it take extra effort to not allow a delay feature with one out of the eight modes? Seriously.

Great product with one key item for improvement. If you want more capacity than your typical steamer, this has it and is up to the task of steaming all those levels.

"Wicked Good for Diabetics and too eat healthy or lose weight" 2010-01-22
By Ronald D. Anderson
Great product. Used other steamers and this one is a breeze. Brushed metal housing looks good in my kitchen with all the other brushed metal and cast metal devices. Cleans like a breeze, nice timer and loud beeper when water is low or time is up. Holds huge amount of food, you can make a full meal for 5 in it all by itself, meats on layer one, Veggies on layer 2 and rice and other stuff on level 3. Hard plastic levels, which have bounced around my tile kitchen floor from 14 yr old son doing dishes, has been on top and lower shelf of dishwasher with no distortion to plastic shapes. Good product. I like Breville products. They are not cheesy.

"works great, couldn't ask for a better steamer" 2009-12-28
By Helen Henwood (houston, tx)
I LOVE LOVE LOVE this steamer. It works awesome. The only bad thing is that it is a number 7 plastic and does have BPA in it. If it was BPA free it would be 5 stars all the way for me. If you dont care about the #7 plastic than this is a very nice steamer. I for one tossed mine, because of the plastic. So now I am on the hunt for a new steamer.

"Is it BPA free?" 2009-06-11
By mmcfadd1
I purchased the Breville 3-tier steamer for it's features including the ability to add more water while steaming is in process. Then I noticed the #7 on the plastic, which is a "catch-all" for all other plastics, one of which is BPA that leeches into food especially when heated. I can't find any information on the included packaging... does anyone know whether Breville plastics contain BPA???

"Nesco Food steamer" 2010-03-02
By Janet Livingston (Boston, MA)
The steamer works perfectly. It even fits large artichokes. The only complaint that I have is that the plastic material used for the steamer baskets is very thin and I am fearful that it will not have much longevity. Although it says dishwasher safe, I would be reluctant to expose it to that kind of heat.

"Not a good buy!" 2009-08-02
By georgia
I gave this item one star because it does steam food and fast. The problem I have with the steamer is that the steaming water, no matter how little water you put in, steams up over the side of the base. Hot water goes everywhere. I am going to have to buy a different brand.

"Not what I expected" 2009-01-20
By R. Cash (Waxahachie, TX)
I bought this steamer because of the two tier. I've been using by B&D for the last 9 years and the B&D is made much better than this Nesco. The material used for the lid and baskets are very cheap, very thin and flimsy. I'm glad I didn't get rid of my B&D steamer!

"Nice, good price." 2008-12-03
By Kismet (Helensburgh Scotland)
I like this product, fantastic value for the price. I use it occasionally and it gives good results each time. Only 2 downfalls so far are that it is bulky when stored & the steam can catch you off guard as the lids/next tier pop out easily. However, it IS A STEAMER & there are warnings!

"Should have bought a Black & Decker" 2010-05-14
By Yogi Boo Boo
We had a Black & Decker single basket steamer w/rice basket and flavor basket, and used it 2-3 times a week for years. It started leaking from the bottom so I decided to buy a new one, saw this one and thought "wow - what a great price and it can steam a lot of things at once". Well, I haven't tried steaming a number of things at once yet, but so far I am not impressed. The rice bowl is too small, and the directions for steaming rice are WRONG. If you put in 3/4 cup of rice and 2 cups of water you are going to get rice soup - gross. Stick with 1-1/4 cups of water to 1 cup of rice. The unit itself feels cheap. The baskets don't fit well on top of the unit when you stack them for storage. I don't think the cover fits well on the baskets I have used when steaming. The turbo feature - you had better be paying attention when you plug this in, because it will automatically start steaming in seconds. I think it goes through more water than my Black & Decker did too - my husband checked it after steaming rice for 50 minutes and the basin was almost empty, and I had filled it knowing that I was steaming for a long time. I gave this three stars because it does work, but I wouldn't buy another one. I would get a Black & Decker instead, and since I am starting to learn that multi-tasking appliances don't seem to do anything well, I think I would buy another single-basket and rice bowl machine.

"Great steamer" 2009-02-11
By K. Dedmon-Rodriguez
I love this steamer. I got it to replace a two-tiered steamer I'd gotten over ten years ago. It heats up quickly and steams evenly, even though the baskets are large. I love the timer - no more winding and turning - and it's easily cleaned. The baskets nest so that they only take up the room of one basket while it's in the cabinet. Overall, I'm very satisfied with this product. I'd purchase it again, and I'd recommend it to anyone looking for a good steamer.

every to use, neither too big or too small, can cook for 1-3 people. and the steak is very good to use! I love it, the only weakness is that you can leave it warm until the water is gone, then there will be a horrible smell, that is all. I will recommend it and the price is really acceptable, even including the shipping fee.

I bought the Aroma ARC-737-1G 7-Cup Pot-Style Rice Cooker for a reasonable price. So far, I am very happy with it. Rice and vegetables come out nicely done in less than ten minutes. Once you know the right amount of water to use rice won't stick to it.I have use cookers that cost is tree times more and, I can tell you they are not worth it. The Aroma ARC-1G7 is lighter and easier to use.

"Aroma 7 cup rice cooker" 2010-07-04
By AJM (New Jersey)
Purchased this rice cooker through a recommendation from a family member. It is great!! I followed the instructions as how to prepare the rice and cook it. Comes out great all the time. I have only cooked white rice not brown so I can't tell you how the brown rice will come out. The rice will stick to the bottom a little bit. All you have to do is to is remove the inner pot, put some water in it and let it soak a few hours. Then you can use a sponge and remove the excess rice. Please do not use an abrasive sponge, it will take off the finish in time. Also use plastic utensils so you don't scratch the inner pot. Also bought the 17 cup Aroma rice cooker. Works just as good.

Easy to set up, operate and clean. Heats up fast, and there's no need to thaw frozen vegetables beforehand. Read the instruction manual thoroughly before using. Do NOT overfill with water. Use the minimum recommended time when steaming a particular item for the first time.

"careful w/ water level" 2010-05-28
By K. Higgins
I just got this steamer after going thru 3 of them in the past 13 yrs and I really like this one. Solid and sturdy plastic, great delay timer. Steamed our artichokes beautifully in 35 minutes. The only problem was that I had put too much water in and it wouldn't work...so I dumped out some of the water, turned it back on and it still shut off. Had to take it all apart, pour out the water then let it cool down for sev. minutes.... after all that, it worked!!! So, don't ever overfill with water!

"works fine but difficult to handle" 2009-12-10
By Sidney (Los Angeles, CA United States)
It works fine but if I had seen the way it is shaped before buying, I would not have bought it. The 3 parts have rings that need to be fitted under them, otherwise they will collapse into each other. However, you have to take off such a ring to fit a part into the lower body or to put a cover on it. I cannot even explain this right, it is just too complicated of a system. The result is that you keep putting in and taking out these rings. When you are cooking and it is hot, this is not only unwieldy, but you can risk a burn too.

"Great product" 2009-11-01

Great product. Will steam cook 6 nice sized potatoes in about 45 minutes. The squash we did had such a much better flavor compared to microwaving it, and it was cooked very uniformly. Would higjly recomend this steamer.

"The best kitchen appliance I own!" 2009-10-23
By Anna Broz (Philadelphia, Pa, USA)
This product is absolutely amazing. I was skeptical when I first ordered it..even though it had great reviews. Well, I have to say that this is the best appliance I own AND one of the greatest inventions of the 20th century!!!! It is easy to use, easy to clean... just put everything in and voila! I barely use pots anymore!!! I use it 3-4 times a week, every week. Even though the manual warns to be careful cleaning the plastic pieces in the dishwasher, I put mine on the top rack. Definitely the best buy, especially if you have kids and want to make sure that they eat nutritious foods.

"I use it nearly every day." 2010-07-13
By Edward Gogek
After burning too many vegetables on the stove, I bought a vegetable steamer. I only use distilled water in it just out of caution of forming deposits, and it does use a lot of water--about two cups for each meal. It also takes a bit longer to cook things than the instructions say. I give it 30 minutes for rutabagas and sweet potatoes. But it works well. I often use it to cook two things at a time on the two different levels. I've had it over a year and have had no problems.

"Excellent Product" 2010-06-06
By R. M. Allingham
We had a very old model of the Black and Decker Steamer/Rice cooker. It was terrific but died after probably 15 years. This is just a new improved version of our original. We have been very pleased with the new one. The only fault I have is no cook book came with it. Luckily we still have the book that came with our original.

"This Steamer Is The Bomb!!!" 2010-03-11
By Eric Fuentes (Dana Point, CA United States)
This steamer is the bomb... I am so glad that I read the reviews... Cleanup is easy, avoid dishwasher and just use paper towels or a towel to cleanup and prolong the life of the plastic. One big plus on this unit is the water reserve tray (the most important part of the sell), which is below the steamer trays and can be easily drained and dried out with a towel... no worring about mold building up there!!!
Regarding the cooking times... The manual for this product does not include cooking times (there's a sticker on the back of the product that does). But if you want to print out something like I did, I found a manual for the scentless Black & Decker Model that does include more cooking times then the sticker. Here are the links, the model number is HS11501050 you can select and print yourself at:

I just bought my mom one as a gift right before I wrote this review... And will probably be buying these as Christmas gifts this year or for someone's birthday... A healthier way of living, and tastier too!!!
Enjoy!!! :) :) :)

"Works, but Beware of Learning a New Cooking Style" 2010-02-09
By Melody (Michigan)
This B&D double steamer has never failed to operate. Easy to clean by hand or dishwasher. However, I learned that using a steamer to cook requires the cook to learn a new way of cooking. No two food items have the same cook time. It requires babysitting, juggling, guess work, strategizing how to get your foods cooked ending at the same time, without putting any vegetables to mush. With a steamer, there is NO such thing as set it and forget it. I like the steamer for RICE! Again, you will need to experiment with the rice recipe, tweaking your type of rice:water:time ratio. The flavor scenter did nothing for my vegetables/foods when cooking. Use only bottled water unless you don't mind mineral build up on your unit. This is a large appliance in my small kitchen, and the appliance cooks only rice for my purposes.

"Nice product" 2010-08-21

It is very nice product although I had to tighten it after receiving the package. But overall it is a good product. I guess right now Target and World Plus Market also have similar product and they are much cheaper around $5

"Great Product" 2010-08-09
By Barbra
This product is easy to use and compact. I have a very small house/kitchen and little to no storage space this folds up to fit in a very small space. It is also very practical compared to spending a ton of money on a steamer pot.

"Simplicity at its Best" 2010-08-01
By Nae24 (Grand Forks, ND)
Such an unassuming little instrument, this steamer basket. For those cooks and amateur chefs who may be thinking they need some fancy kitchen device to produce culinary cuisines, I say "pfffttt"! This steamer baskets works like a charm. I picked up some fresh green beans from my local Farmers Market(support your local farmers!), popped them into this baby, set it into a stainless steel pot and let the magic happen. It was like my green beans were in a mini sauna, haha. Add a little butter, cracked black pepper and garlic powder and you've got a great side dish or main event ( for you light eaters out there). All kidding aside, this is a great cooking tool and will be an asset to your kitchen. I recommend it for anyone living in an apartment with limited counter and/or cabinet space. There's only so many appliances one can fit onto a counter before it starts looking like you live in a Thrift Store. Just sayin! Oh, and the buck doesn't stop at veggies. I plan on using it to steam tamales tomorrow night. Just think of the possibilities! And if you can't think of them, there are tons of nifty search engines out there bursting with ideas and tips. Bon Appetite :)

"Simple, utilitarian, no fuss & totally works!" 2010-06-17
By Siv S (California, USA)
I reearched a whole bunch of steamers that were quite expensive compared to this one. A friend had this one and highly recommended I don't bother spending extra $$ on fancy steamers & I give this one a try. I have to admit, this one is so simple, easy and effective - really no need for anything else more complicated, flashy or expensive. I've been using this steamer consistently with different veggies - it's very utilitarian, delivers and works perfectly.

"THINK TWICE BEFORE YOU BUY!" 2010-05-20
By J. A. Travis (St Louis, MO USA)
I bought this steamer in 1-10-10, I went to use it this month, and it would not work, on off button and timer would NOT work, when I called the Co. to replace it, they are out of stock. Don't know when they will be back in stock. They do not know! I only used it once a week, and I paid $70.00 plus extra Ins. DO NOT waste your money. My next one will be a 3 tear stainless, non electric, that goes on my stove top, Deni is my 4th steamer.Beware!!

"Like a charm" 2010-02-26
By P. J. Larson (New York, NY United States)
I was given one of these as a gift for Christmas 2009 and have used it every day since without a problem. I love how fast it begins to steam after you turn it on... no waiting for a large volume of water to boil. It is specific in how the different trays can be stacked. If you try to put any tray but the one labeled "1" on the base unit, it will have a gap and perhaps that is where other people are getting leaks. I always use tray #1 on the bottom and never have any problem with leaks. It turns off after the time I set runs out... but it also has a nice "keep warm" mode that will periodically re-steam for a few seconds if you don't get to it right away. I have convinced several of my friends to buy this steamer and have given several of them as gifts. It has changed the way I eat permanently... nothing is healthier than steamed vegetables and they simply taste great.

"Positive Review for 7600 Steamer" 2009-06-16
By T. Lamberti (Houston TX)
My niece ordered this Food Steamer for me as a surprise. I had many concerns when I read the previous reviews while waitng for the steamer to arrive. When it did arrive I was delighted to have called customer service so that I knew I was programming the clock correctly. The CS Rep also gave me some tips and added to the directions in the booklet. Since then I started with steaming vegetable and then progressed to steaming using all three containers to do salmon and corn on the cob and other vegetable. It was fabulous. Then I went on to the real need for the steamer, making chinese pork dumplings [Dim Sum]. Once again, perfect steaming. Setting the time in the beginning can be confusing but the Cus. Ser. folks will walk you thru it. I don't use the programming feature because I would not leave anything electrical unattended. I am totally enjoying this product and have made many wonderful foods in the month I have had it. I recommend using Deni customer service to get started. They are great and really simplify the instructions. T. Lamberti Houston, TX

"Piece of Junk" 2009-06-07
By venatrix (San Francisco, California, United States)
I got this as a gift, and, frankly, wish I'd got nothing instead. The materials are cheap and the machine is temperamental. When it works, it works great, but trying to programme it is a nightmare. I've used it four times, and each time was so frustrated with setting the timer that I wanted to throw the machine at the wall. I'll be tossing this one in the bin soon and buying a different brand.
